Diss MCC succeeded in running a well organised motocross meeting at Wattisfield on Sunday 20th September, and despite the absence of spectators, it was good to see racing once again on the splendid Wattisfield circuit, which was in prime racing condition.

The social distancing and covid19 rules were well observed, and the club were grateful to all who attended, and made the event successful.

Riders were split into four groups, and the A group, which consisted of all the expert grade riders and the fastest juniors, saw local ace, Shaun Southgate, riding the Herts MX Honda, in great form. Norwich Vikings star, Ben Cole, led the first moto for a couple of laps before Southgate took over. Cole finished clear in second place, ahead of a four way scrap for third place, resulting in Max Broadbelt 3rd, followed by the impressive Reece Martin, local club rider, George Ellis and veteran Jason Morland.

The second A race saw Woodbridge club member, Southgate, storming to the front with Cole chasing hard. Morland and Martin battled hard for 3rd place, with Broadbelt fighting through to 5th place , passing South African, Brad Woodfoffee on the final lap. Southgate completed his hat trick in race three, with a fast display of riding, lapping all but eleven riders in the process. Youngster Reece Martin got the better of Jason Morland to claim 2nd place, with Woodroffe and Broadbelt having a tremendous battle for 4th place. Ben Cole was boxed in on the first corner, but did well to fight through to 6th, which was enough to give him 2nd overall on the day, just one point ahead of Martin.

The B group was dominated by local Diss club rider Ross Taylor, who won all three moto's. He won his first two races with ease, but had to work hard to catch Colchester's Mark Gardner in race three. Gardner was second overall, with the Sudbury club's Yamaha rider, Philip Waldron, third on the day.

The third hat trick winner was Karl Sturman in group C. The Norwich Vikings rider rode well in each moto. Robert Mortlock was second in the first and second races, but an 11th place finish in race three allowed Ben Roper to grab 2nd overall.

Ipswich youngster, Jack Urso, riding for the Woodbridge club, took the overall win in the D group. The newcomer won the first leg, followed by a 4th in race two, then made sure of the overall with a second win in the final race. Essex rider, Ryan Whitehead, was second overall with a 1st, 3rd and 4th place, followed by  Jack Matthews and Jack Noon.
