A full test of the new MyLaps timing system was carried out at Lyng yesterday. 53 invited riders braved the frosty conditions in a series of sessions throughout the day so that the timing team could get used to the equipment, and prctice our procedures for issuing rented transponders.
Although only 40 transponders were issued, less than we are likely to be issuing on race day, Becky and Francesca handled this very smoothly. I would like to thank those riders who borrowed transponders for returning them at the end of the day, Not one rider went home with the transponder still attached to the bike.
The timing system ran faultlessly, recording every single rider passing, and by the end of the day even the operators were getting the hang of it ;-) Our only mishap came when Lyn and I smelt burning and shut the whole system down. Further investigation revealed the "burning" smell to be the dust burning off of an electric fire that Andy Hay had brought with him to keep the girls in the next room warm. By the end of the day we were able to time the practice session as if it were a "time + laps" race without a problem.
I would like to thank everyone who helped make the test such a success; the Vikings club for making the track available, all marshals and officials, Dave the paramedic, the riders for turning up, and everyone else whose names I don't know but probably will by the end of the season. My personal thanks go to Lyn, whose lap scoring experience was invaluable, and who I look forward to working with throughout the season.
Because the permit was only for a practice we are not allowed to make any of the results available. You will just have to take our word for it that all went well ;-)
