It has just been announced that Dennis Slaughter has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List.

Dennis has been involved in British Motorcycle Sport as a competitor, official and organiser for 63 years.

As a volunteer and at the age of 83 Dennis has spent every single day at the Cadders Hill Motocross circuit based in Lyng near Norwich preparing it for meetings of all levels which have included local club, Regional, National and International events.

Since 1948 Dennis has not missed a Motocross event of any kind at the Norfolk based Cadders Hill Motocross circuit. In 1957 Dennis was involved in a serious Grass Track racing incident. He was rushed to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a ruptured spleen. After this accident Dennis spent more time helping to organise events at Cadders Hill encouraging young riders and helping with the Viking Club administration.

It is 63 years ago that Dennis first rode at the Lyng circuit which has gone from a mountain grass track and hill climb venue to Scrambles then to Regional, National and now an International Motocross circuit. This has all been achieved mainly because of the enthusiasm, drive, and sheer hard work of Dennis through his passion for motorcycle sport.

Dennis said of his award "I am pleased with the MBE and I don’t know who put me forward. I’ve not seen anyone yet to tell them. I do enjoy helping the club and I am there nearly every day to get the course ready.  I must have enjoyed helping otherwise I would not have done it!”

Chairman Brian Higgins commented "I am delighted for Dennis.  Being awarded the MBE is an Honour and I can't think of anyone more deserving.  Throughout his many years associated with Motocross and the ACU we are indebted to him for the time and contribution he has given and continues to do so.  Even today, I wouldn't be surprised to find him at the Lyng Motocross track.  A true gentleman in Motorcycle sport"

Dennis Slaugther MBE 0 lolMany congratulations to Dennis Slaughter on his MBE very well deserved. What hasn't Dennis done for our Sport, I don;t know but I do know that as well as a great stalwart of the Norwich Vikings MCC, he served on the Eastern Centre ACU Competitions Committee, currently Life Vice President, served on the ACU National Moto Cross Committee becoming Chairman upon the death of Albert Carter, National Team Manager, currently Honorary Member of the ACU. It has been a pleasure to know Dennis and to think he has the same Honour as Jeff Smith.
