About Grass Track
(or
Track Racing as it is now often called)
Still a popular form of racing with a loyal following both of riders and spectators.
Races consist of up to 12 solo riders or 6 sidecars and are run over an essentially oval track, normally a field or similar venue. There is a very strong resemblance to Speedway as can be seen in both the track layout and the type of machine.
Adult solo and sidecar, and solo youth classes are catered for, youth generally being classed as between 6 and 17 years old.
Grass Track events normally take place during the summer months and it is not generally considered to be a year long activity.
It should be appreciated that it may be necessary to travel some quite long distances to take advantage of a full season’s racing as the events are usually Regional Restricted which means that riders belonging to clubs within adjoining centres can also compete and vice versa. This has come about in an attempt to get enough entries in each racing class for the meeting to be a viable proposition for the organising club.
