Committees of the Eastern Centre
The Eastern Centre ACU, along with most organisations, needs several committees and subcommittees together with their officers to administer the sport in a manner that can be seen to be fair to all - clubs, organisers, spectators and competitors.
In these days of increasing litigation and the advance of the ‘no win, no fee’ firms of solicitors who would appear to be trawling for business, it has become increasingly necessary to ensure that our sport is run in a responsible and proper manner for the benefit of all.
The main body of the centre is the Centre Board which is the controlling influence of the centre and to whom all officials and subcommittees are responsible. Please see the page relating to the Centre Board for a full description of the make up, etc. of the Board.
The Centre Board has two main committees directly responsible to it:
- The Executive (or Emergency) committee
- The Competitions Committee
The Competitions Committee in turn has discipline sub-committees which are responsible for providing the committee with advice regarding their specific discipline
To run efficiently, it is essential that the centre has rules by which its operation is controlled. However, being a local centre of the ACU means that we are governed by rules laid down by the ACU which may be found in the ACU Handbook, currently published each year. However, there are additional rules relating to the operation of the Eastern Centre and these are detailed in the bye laws page of this site.
The officials of the centre are elected annually at the Centre’s Annual Meeting which is normally held on Remembrance Sunday in November of each year. This date is chosen by most, if not all centres for their Annual Meetings since, by tradition, there are no ACU authorised events taking place that day. This is in memory of those, especially dispatch riders, who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars and thus gives all centre members whether rider official or club officials, the chance to attend this important meeting.
