Lyng Set To Host Round 4 of the
Maxxis British Motocross Championship

World class motocross returns to Lyng on May Bank Holiday Sunday (4th) when the UK’s top teams call in to the superb Norfolk venue for round 4 of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship. Factory teams from Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda will be fielding their top riders in both the MX1 and MX2 classes as the series reaches it’s half way point.

With no other rounds in the Eastern Centre during 2008, this will be the only chance this year to see these top riders in action in this region. Reigning MX1 champion Billy MacKenzie has swapped to the CAS Honda team this season and has been in awesome form. He was unbeaten at the first two rounds of the domestic series, and followed this up with a second place in the opening Grand Prix in Holland on April 6th. Bury St Edmunds based Swift Suzuki have signed Brad Anderson this season for both the British and World championships. He currently lies second in the points table and is always fast at Lyng where he won his first British championship round last year. Norwegian Kenneth Gundersen completes the top three in the MX1 class on the Utag Yamaha, and is another that has enjoyed success on the world stage.

In the MX2 class former champion and Grand Prix winner Stephen Sword leads the series on his Molson Kawasaki after sitting out most of last year due to injury. He is another rider that enjoys the rough terrain of the Lyng track, but will have to be at his best to fend off Utag Yamaha’s Martin Barr who has his sights firmly on the number one plate. Shaun Simpson has also had a terrific start to the championship on his KTM, while American Mike Brown, who is the defending MX2 champion, has had a torrid time on the CAS Honda and needs to get maximum points to stay in the title hunt.

Cadders Hill is one of the few natural tracks in the British Championship calendar, and always a favourite with the riders. The tough unforgiving nature provides a true challenge of man and machinery with no opportunities for the riders to take a rest during the 30 minute plus two lap race distance. Modified in 2004 with the introduction of a chicane just before the finish to slow the riders down as they approach the chequered flag from the awesome 60 foot drop off the edge of ‘the hill’, the mix of sand and deep soil is another feature that makes the Lyng venue stand out from the crowd.

Both the MX1 and MX2 classes have two races during the afternoon programme, with race action getting underway at 12.30pm, after a full morning’s qualifying that starts at 9.30am.

A family ticket (two adults and two children) is just £40, Otherwise admission is £20; concessions £15; and children £5 – children under 5 years old free. Car parking is free. Access to the paddock is free and all the top riders will be available at their team trucks to sign autographs in the lunch break from 11.30am to 11.50am
