80 Years and Counting
Cadders Hill supremo Dennis Slaughter of the Norwich Viking MCC could not have wished for a better birthday present. Having dedicated most of his life to the track, he spent his 80th birthday overseeing proceedings at the Maxxis British Championship round on May 4th.
At a dinner held in his honour the night before he had been presented with an aerial photograph of the Cadders Hill track taken during the 2007 round. The framed picture was presented to him by former British and World Champion Dave Thorpe, a member of the 1974 MX des Nations winning team for which Dennis was the team manager.
The dinner was attended by family and friends from the world of motocross, including representatives from the ACU who also made an award.
Tributes were made by several of those who have worked with Dennis over the years to further scrambling / motocross within the Eastern Centre and beyond, including 'Sidge' Kenny.
Press reports of his impending retirement as Clerk of the Course were grossly exagerated, as Oscar Wilde would say.
