Ipswich MCC Summer Trial - Offton Pit 17th Aug 2008
Photo: Best Expert, Graham Marfleet
With the Rain pouring down in the early morning of the trial some riders may have been put off from entering the Ipswich event at the chalky pit at Offton. But within a little while the sun came out and the 35 riders that turned up tackled the 10 multi-routed sections 4 times.
The Expert winner was Graham Marfleet who rode his new Raga Gas Gas to a convincing win over Steve Douglas. Steve led until the last lap where a string of failures late on in the lap proved very costly. The slippery cambers ofsections 5 and 8 were the only sections that were not cleaned on this route, with the best ride being a couple of ones. Best youth with an excellent ride was Tom Howe who would have been placed 4th overall.
Expert B rider Andy Coe was best on the main route, he finished just in front of fellow Ipswich rider Mike Hunter who was the best Inter. Again the hard slippery surface of sections 5 and 8 took the majority of the marks on this middle route.
On the easy route it was an excellent ride by Norwich novice rider David Basham who cleaned the entire event on his Montesa, with Inter B riders Geoff Scrivener and the evergreen Doug Theobald just behind.
The Trial was dedicated to the memory of one of the Ipswich clubs Riders Steve Crisp, who sadly passed away the week before the trial.
