2007 John Charley Trophy Trial Report

September 9th saw Wymondham and District MCC at Middleton Pit again, just east of Kings Lynn, for the 2007 John Charley Trophy Trial as the third round of the Eastern Centre Trials Championship for Expert, Intermediate and Youth A classes.

Although the entry may have been small at 32 riders, all the main adult class championship contenders were entered. The ten sections to be ridden five times were distributed around the pit on a combination of quarried Carstone and loose sand. On the hard route the Expert competition was very close with five riders covered by seven marks, Matthew Neale just winning on 31 marks, two marks ahead of Jeff Hibbs and a further mark in front of Stephen Douglas. Although the double sub of the rocky sections one and two were never completely cleaned it was section five where Matthew lost 13 of his marks compared to six by Stephen, including the only clean of the day.

The middle route was ridden by the Intermediate riders and the only two youths riding. Best youth, Tom Howe, and the best Intermediate, Andy Coe, tied on forty marks lost. Andy's win was a lot closer as runner up Glen Davey was only eight behind with third place Thorne Smith a further mark back. In this class again section five was a big mark taker, together with section six the first half of another double sub-section amongst the rocks.

Overall it was a successful event despite the low entry and a few unfortunate retirements, this venue does provide something unique for trials in this part of the country.
