On 5 July, during a gathering to celebrate Wilf Harvey's 90th birthday, Andy Waters, representing the ACU Enduro Commission, presented Wilf with an ACU Lifetime Achievement Certificate in recognition of his outstanding contribution to ACU-affiliated motorcycle sport.The certificate, signed by Matthew Edwards-Wear, ACU Chief Executive Officer, was accompanied by a covering letter highlighting some of Wilf's many achievements and his lifelong dedication to motorcycle sport. The contents of the letter are reproduced below:

Special Recognition and Thanks on the Occasion of Your 90th Birthday

Dear Wilf,

On behalf of the Auto-Cycle Union, and in my capacity as Chief Executive Officer, it is both a privilege and a pleasure to write to you to offer our sincere thanks and recognition on the occasion of your forthcoming 90th birthday.

Your involvement with ACU-affiliated motorcycle sport spans more than seven decades, beginning with your first off-road ACU trial in 1953. Few individuals can claim such a sustained and committed contribution to the sport, and even fewer have continued to serve with the enthusiasm, resilience, and generosity of spirit that you have demonstrated throughout your life.

As a competitor, you represented trials, motocross, and enduro disciplines locally and nationally, achieving notable success. Your 6th overall placing in a British Championship sidecar motocross round and your British Championship enduro campaigns, including overall honours in the 4-stroke class on a Honda 200, stand as testament to both your ability and determination. Your philosophy of "never give up" has embodied the very essence of off-road sport.

Equally significant has been your contribution behind the scenes. As a trustee of Woodbridge MCC, you played a vital role in raising funds and securing the Blaxhall venue — now rightly regarded as one of the finest off-road motorcycle venues in the country. From the 1970s onwards, your work as Clerk of the Course and event organiser helped shape the development of enduro sport in the region. Your successful engagement with the Forestry Commission to establish access to East Anglian forests was a landmark achievement that inspired and enabled many others to organise ACU events, including in Thetford Forest.

Your service to the ACU has extended far beyond the UK. Over a 21-year period, you represented the Union internationally as assistant team manager for three British ISDE team managers, travelling across Europe and beyond throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with professionalism and pride.

Remarkably, your contribution has never diminished. Even today, you continue to give your time willingly — acting as a special test starter, observing at club trials, assisting with event set-up, and supporting clubs in all weather conditions. Your quiet dedication exemplifies the spirit on which our sport relies.

In recognition of your lifetime of service, commitment, and achievement, please accept the accompanying Lifetime Achievement Certificate as a small token of the ACU's immense gratitude and respect.

Wilf, your legacy is not only measured in events run or races completed, but in the people, clubs, and communities you have inspired. We sincerely thank you and your family for your continued support, and wish you a very happy 90th birthday.
