On Sunday the 22nd of September, Diss MCC hosted their final MX meeting of the year with 2 all-comer groups, as well as a round of the NGR championship and the South-eastern evos too. With the forecast predicting rain the track crew prepared the track accordingly and managed to put on a fantastic race meeting.
The allcomers groups were split depending on their best qualifying lap times, and with sponsor Evan Worby giving bonus prize money for the fastest lap in any of the qualifying or race sessions, along side GMC Interiors putting up prize money for the holeshot award, it was all to play for as the race action kicked off.
Allcomers A group race 1 would see Max Broadbelt get out of the gate quickest and control the race to the chequered flag, second was the local star Joseph Leeks (Lings Husqvarna) and in third was Joe Jones. Ollie Brader and Chester Hyde who was returning from a long injury lay off would finish inside the top 5.
In race 2 Max Broadbelt again was dominant as Joe Leeks made two costly errors in the battle of the top 5. As the race drew to a close and the last lap flag came out it was bizarre moment from the leader Broadbelt, who seemingly thought the chequered flag came out and pulled off track and back to the pits! This would leave the race win to Joe Jones and Joe Leeks in second, Kayden Smith (Lings Triumph) was third.Joe Leeks
The last allcomers A race of the day would see Joe Leeks on his home track take a start-to-finish race win, defying pressure from behind by Broadbelt who would finish second and Jones was third. Chester Hyde would take his best result of the afternoon in fourth.
The overall going to Leeks, who tops off a productive 2024 season. Joe Jones would take second overall and Chester Hyde third. The Evan Worby sponsored fastest lap award would go to Max Broadbelt from race one with a 1:33.033.
The allcomers B group overall honours were taken by Shaun Tacey with a 2-1-1 ahead of Craig Page-Baker with a 1-3-2. In third was Sam Whittred with a 4-2-3.
In the NGR championship Aaron Hopkins would extent his points lead in the championship as he took the first race win comfortably, then going on to finish second in the next 2 races. John Hinz would finish second in the first race and then take the final 2 race wins meaning we would take the overall ahead of Hopkins.
In the South-eastern evo group, Shane Lock would take race 1 win and was in control of race 2 before bike problems would rule him out, meaning Chris Thorpe would take race 2 win. In race 3 Ryan Matthews and Chris Thorpe would put on a bar-to-bar display at the front, and on the final lap Matthews would take lead and go on to win his first race of the day.
The Diss MCC would like to thank you for the support in 2024 and look forward to welcoming you back next year!
