Sunday 30th July saw the Woodbridge DMCC host their latest motocross meeting at the Blaxhall Circuit for an action-packed day of racing which avoided the heavy rain showers. With a full line up of 160 riders across the 4 groups and incorporating the 7th round of the NGR Championship.
After the qualifying sessions to determine the groups for the races later in the day it was time for the racing to start. Group A were out on track first with a line-up of over 20 Experts being joined by the fastest Juniors to complete the line up. When the gate dropped it was Shaun Southgate who took the early race lead ahead of Sam Nunn, while fastest qualifier Max Broadbelt crashed twice on the opening lap and had a lot of work to do. At the front there was a great battle between Southgate and Nunn, with Nunn taking the lead before a crash saw Southgate reclaim the lead and race win. Nunn finished second ahead of Tom Murphy who rode a solid third with Bayliss Utting fourth and Liam Bennett fifth. Kai Thorpe, Cullen Hawkins and Harvey Thomas were the first 3 Juniors in 16th, 17th and 18th.
The second Group A races saw Max Broadbelt make up for a tough first race with a good start ahead of Sam Nunn. Unfortunately, Nunn would crash on the second lap and decide to withdraw from the rest of the days racing. The battle for the leading positions saw Shaun Southgate move into second before a mistake saw in slip to fourth, allowing Murphy and Ben Cole ahead. Southgate would recover and reclaim second by the finish behind Broadbelt and ahead of Murphy in third. Fourth went to Cole and once again Liam Bennett took fifth, nearly missing out a drag race to the finish with Ben Cole. Thorpe, Hawkins and Thomas were again the top 3 Junior riders in the race. The final Group A race saw good starts for Broadbelt and Josh Peters, with Broadbelt taking the race lead on the opening lap as he went on the take the race win comfortably ahead of Peters. The battle for third saw Ben Cole take the position ahead of Tom Murphy and Bayliss Utting. The leading Juniors were Thorpe, Connor Bunkle and Finley Jarvis. The results gave Broadbelt the overall win with Murphy tied on points in second, with Ben Cole third and Bayliss Utting and Josh Peters making up the top 5. The Junior Overall was Kai Thorpe, Connor Bunkle and Jae Jeffries.
In the NGR Championship class the riders were competing for points at round 7 of the season. In the three races there was some great racing at the front between former GP rider Gary Hoptrough and Aaron Framingham. The paired battled all race long with the lead changing multiple times in each race. At the end of the three races, it was Hoptrough who took all three wins with Framingham close behind each time. Next it was Woodbridge club member Shane Brown who claimed third overall with three third place finishes. Fourth overall went to John Hinz who went 6,5,4 in the races, with Aaron Hopkins taken fifth overall with 7,4,6 results.
Next up was the Group B class and across the three races it was Bailey Jackson who took the overall with three race wins ahead of Jack Whitlam who claimed second overall with three second places. Next was Luke Nolan in third overall with a 3,5,3 scorecard ahead of James Taylor in fourth overall and Mark Hunt rounding out the top 5 overall with a consistent day of racing.
Finally, Group C saw Jay Peperell take the third overall and three race wins ahead of Alexander Smith in second overall and Lewis Wells in third overall. Craig Page-Baker took fourth overall with Kieran Dawson in fifth.
