“Aimable” and “Charming” are two words I would use to describe Fred Cotton who has passed away at the good age of eighty-nine. President and long-time member of the Ipswich Triangle club - now celebrating over a centuary of active operation, Fred was also very much a rider, official and he additionally had worked in the motorcycle trade. When he was manager at Dave Bicker`s shop in Ipswich, I personally had the benefit of both his knowledge and kindness when he once re-opened the premises on a Sunday to get me some vital spares for a meeting on the same day!
I also remember on another occasion when he ran a unique: “Motor-bike Fashion Show,” with Pete Corder at the Spa Pavilion, in Felikstowe – a unique and altogether rather jolly affair. Not only that but Fred also was a competition rider. I associate him from memory, riding aboard a Greeves trials bike and was also a rider/player for the Triangle motoball team – a sector of the Sport we do not see much in these days but at the time, the club was amongst the leading moto-ball teams in the country.
Clearly a varied life, Fred`s passing would be as one who would be clasified as both a unique individual but also a genuine “clubman”.
