The season kick off for the Norfolk and Suffolk Junior MCC club, a new committee, new track layout and a new frustration with weather aps! Sunday 22nd Feb saw a great line up of 21 Autos, 28 65cc, 18 85SW, 16 85BW and 28 in the Youth 125 & Open combined. The track was technical and challenging, which made for some close racing across all groups. With soft patches catching a few riders out early on, the sun came out changing the conditions through the day. Heros on the day were the kids in the younger classes and the pick ups who signed on track to assist.
The Auto class saw some pure class riding and fire in his belly from George Foames going 1-1-1 and the Holeshot, chased down by Louie Hutchings bagging a solid 2-2-2 and Caden Robinson rounding up the podium with a 3-4-3 to get 3rd overall. The rest of the pack had mixed results across the longer Auto loop for this season, with more challenging sections but still big smiles. The highlight was one of the youngest competitors believing his trophy was made of ‘real gold’!Next up to report is the 65cc group – one of the biggest gates of the day. With some new riders to this geared class it was a great one to watch. Max Miller stormed the podium with 1-1-1 and the Holeshot, just pipping Travis Hardy to the flags. The battle was on for 3rd with Harrison Webb working really hard with a bike issue to retain 5th in the first, he came back flying with 2nd for race 2 and 3rdplace in the third to give us our final rider on the podium.
The 85SW class welcomed a guest rider, Jack Stanford who took 3 wins and the Holeshot for 1st place overall. George Hutchings secured a solid 2nd place on the podium with Harry Rennie in striking distance in 3rd. This is going to be a class to watch for the season with some battles between some hungry riders in the rest of the class.
What can we say about the 85BW, dominated by Franky Donoghue with lap times 10 seconds quicker than the pack chasing him down. A solid start to his season with 1-1-1 and Holeshot for the trophy shelf. Finley Smith had a consistent day of racing with 2-2-2 for 2nd overall and Cieran Rendell bagging the 3rd overall with a 3-5-3. Another podium to keep an eye on this season with many of the riders setting their sights for it this season.
Rounding up our junior classes is the combined Youth125 and Youth Open class, 28 bikes on the line and Kieran Bullock having a great day with a couple of 3rd place finishes in races 2 &3 and taking the podium position for the Youth 125 class. Travis Bixby enjoying the winter track conditions with 3 wins and the overall 1st place and lap times the adults would be jealous of. Bobby Topping and Daniel Marr rounding up the 125 podium with 2nd and 3rd and Benjamin Arthton and Jesse Gordon starting their 2026 seasons strong with 2nd and 3rd for the Youth Open class.
Finally our adult classes. A few nerves in the holding pen at practice as they went out first to clear the surface ahead of the smaller bikes. The A group gave the spectators a show With Bayliss Utting out in front with Alfie Geddes-Green working hard on the 125cc to catch him. The rest of the pack were chasing the sub 2 minute lap times with a close battle for 3rd place which Connor Bunkle sinching it overall. The top 10 in the Adult B was very closely raced, with good battles across the day. This is where you see the racing dads and Mum (go Anna Robinson) showing their skills. The overall was won by Charlie Rennie with a 2,1,1, Ky Rolfe taking 2nd place and Freddie Bond just pipping Richard Squrriel for the 3rd place spot.
Rider Quote: ‘The racing and track were superb given the weather we’d had the past few weeks. Nice to have a gate drop in so early in the year and props to the club for making it run so smoothly’
